IR Fellowship Applications

It’s that time again. Application season for interventional radiology fellowships is right around the corner and here are some updates regarding the application process:

– This year is expected to be another competitive year in the IR match.  Last year, 98% of available positions were filled through the match.

– Fellowship interview dates WILL NOT shift from last year’s timeframe.

– The interview dates for the 2016 appointment year Radiology- Interventional Fellowship Match are:  January 15, 2015- April 14, 2015.

– Match Day has not been determined by the NRMP at this time.  Once the date is determined, it will be posted here and on

Other updates 

As the IR Residency becomes gets closer to becoming implemented, programs around the country are reaching out to medical students to inform them about interventional radiology.  Several programs are hosting loco-regional symposia as a way to introduce IR not only at their medical schools, but also to students at nearby institutions.  Two upcoming loco-regional symposia are listed below and registration is free!

Description- “The goal of the Interventional Radiology Symposium at Massachusetts General Hospital is to introduce current medical students to the innovative, minimally invasive, and clinically oriented field of interventional radiology. The goal of the Interventional Radiology Symposium is to introduce current medical students to the innovative, minimally invasive, and clinically oriented field of interventional radiology. The Division of Interventional Radiology in the Department of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital also wishes to promote learning and networking opportunities for medical students interested in a career in this specialty.

We encourage you to share this information with medical students at your institution who have expressed an interest in radiology, interventional radiology, and/or minimally invasive therapy.

Call for Volunteers

The Resident and Fellow Section of SIR is looking for motivated volunteers for several leadership positions within the RFS.  Having been involved with the RFS since its inception, I can say without reservation I have met amongst the most personable, motivated, and hard working residents, fellows, and attendings around the country, all of whom are actively working to push the specialty forward.
